ANITS wins The Hindu Eplus Club Challenge

There was a mix of euphoria and tension as scores of students fought for the overall championship in The Hindu Eplus Club Challenge-2011 held at Raghu Engineering College, Dakamarri on Sunday. The contest was held in association with Raghu Educational Institutions and Conduira. After a thrilling contest, it was the jubilant team from Anil Neerukonda Institute of Technology and Sciences (ANITS) that took away the coveted overall championship trophy. The runners-up was Vignan Engineering College for Women (VECW). The overall team champion and the runners-up took home trophies and cash prizes of Rs.10,000 and Rs.5,000 each respectively. More than 800 students from over 20 engineering and degree colleges from the three coastal districts took part in the day-long competition.
Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) D. Purandeswari, who was the chief guest for the event, gave away the prizes to the winners. She applauded the efforts of The Hindu in organising such an innovative programme for the students. “Improving soft skills is the need of the hour. In a country where 60 per cent of students belong to rural areas, initiatives like this will be highly beneficial for students from the rural areas. This is a brilliant step in bridging the gap between the rural and urban students,” she said. Quoting Winston Churchill, the Minister said, “Kingdoms of the future are the kingdoms of the mind. Education is the greatest investment of our human resource and the youth in the country have tremendous potential in them to take the country forward.”
The experts and dignitaries stressed on the need to develop soft skills among students in order to give a fillip to their career. Assistant Collector Kartikeya Misra highlighted the importance of communication and leadership skills in the job market. “Today, it is all about how well you market yourself. Analytical capability, team-building and leadership capabilities and a presentable appearance all help to enhance the personality. “Eplus club activities are an excellent way to strike the right balance between academics and soft skills,” he told the students.Vice-Chancellor of JNTU-Kakinada Allam Appa Rao said that the youth is the powerhouse of the nation and spoke on the need to enhance soft skills in order to move ahead in the ladder of success.

Appreciating the enthusiasm of the students in their active participation in the event, State Bureau Chief of The Hindu S. Nagesh Kumar said that The Hindu Eplus Club was first formed in the year 2008 in Karimnagar. Since then, it has branched into several districts all over the state.

Prasad and Shalini Gupta from CTC Communication, Sangita Sehgall and Shyla Kurma from The Launch Pad, B. Sai Lakshmi from Government Polytechnic, Sanjay Das from Career Launch, Prof. D.V.R. Murthy from AU, Prof. P.S. Avadhani from AUCOE, Kishan Kaza from GITAM University, Nandi Awardee Suneel Kumar Reddy and Cinematographer K. Vijay Kumar.
The first three prizes in different competitions are: Elocution – Rani Poojitha Devi (ANITS) and A Jyothsna Rani (VECW), M.K. Priya Darshini (ANITS) and Hepsiba Mohanthy (VECW), M. Sree Lalitha (VECW) and Bonda Anusha (VECW); quiz competition - Raghu Institute of Technology, ANITS and Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology; website designing – VECW, PRISM and GMRIT; collage competition – MVGR College of Engineering, ANITS and Raghu Engineering College. In group discussion, the first prize went to A.V. Siddharth (REC), K. Latha (ANITS), K. Priyanka (GIET) and K.Surendhra (MRPG), the second spot was bagged by T. Nitesh (AITAM), N. Anuu (VECW), Swamy BVT (GMRIT) and Saranya J (GMRIT) and the third prize went to Nishant (MIRACLE), Gowrav Suranna (REC), Sri Vani Rathnam (VECW) and B. Sravya (ANITS).
